Professional piercers, including members of the Association of Professional Piercers (APP), widely recommend it for initial piercings because it is:

Nickel-safe: in our SGS test under EN 1811, nickel release from our titanium was not detected.

Lightweight: it is comfortable for multiple ear piercings and larger pieces.

Corrosion-resistant: it does not rust or tarnish in contact with skin and body fluids.

Colourful without plating: titanium can be anodized to gold, rose, blue and other colours using only an oxide layer.

Tip: “Titanium” alone does not guarantee implant grade. Ask for ASTM F136 and a test report. You can read our SGS reports here.

316L stainless steel: affordable, but contains nickel

316L “surgical steel” is strong and inexpensive, and many people wear it without problems in healed piercings. However, it contains nickel, the most common cause of metal allergy. For a fresh piercing, or for anyone with a known nickel sensitivity, titanium is the safer choice.

Gold-plated jewelry: check what is underneath

Gold plating is a thin surface layer, and it can wear away with time and friction. What matters most is the base metal. Plating over brass or copper alloys is not suitable for body piercings. Our 18K gold-plated collection is plated over ASTM F136 titanium, so the metal underneath is still implant grade. We recommend gold-plated pieces for healed piercings. For a brand-new piercing, choose plain or anodized titanium.

Quick recommendations

New piercing: ASTM F136 titanium, plain polished or anodized.

Sensitive skin or nickel allergy: ASTM F136 titanium.

Healed piercing, gold look: gold-plated over titanium, or anodized gold titanium.

Studios: stock titanium for all initial piercings, then offer plated and decorative options for upgrades.

Shop ASTM F136 titanium
